Korean Martial Art
Hapkido is a Korean Martial Art with its parenthood in the Japanese and traditional indigenous Korean Martial Arts. It was developed in the 1960s and is considered a combat Martial Art. It’s highly eclectic and a great Martial Art if you want to learn self-defence.
Mixed Martial Art

As a Mixed Martial Art, it utilises techniques such as kicks, strikes, locks, joint manipulation and pressure points. It has take-downs, throws, grappling, blocking and fighting on the ground. Hapkido also includes kick and weapon defence, including knife, sword, short and medium length sticks and batons.
Combative Martial Art
Hapkido is also considered a Combative Martial Art, due to its teaching of fighting ‘At Range’ (kicks, strikes, knees, elbows etc), ‘Clinching’ (grappling on your feet, locks, joint manipulation, pressure points, throws, sweeps, takedowns etc) and on the ‘Ground’.
Concepts
Hapkido places an emphasis on circular motion, redirection of force (least resistance) and control of your opponent (water theory).
Just about anyone can do Hapkido
Our hapkido classes have students ranging in age from 6 to 60, with varying levels of fitness and physical ability. You will find that as you work through the belts, you will get fitter, without even realising it.
Talk to us about your concerns of physical limitations. We can develop training outcomes that help you achieve your goals, including improved self defence, fitness or moving through our ranking systems.
We reserve the right to refuse training if convicted of a violence offence
We’re strong believers that violence is wrong and as a Martial artist, it should only be used when absolutely necessary and only to the level needed. In fact, we reserve the right to refuse training to any student, convicted of a violence offence, including Domestic Violence.
